From 25–26 June 2025, Lizu Community Network had the privilege of attending the Youth Summit for Democracy and Human Rights in Malawi — a landmark gathering where the 12-Pillar 2025–2030 National Youth Manifesto was officially launched.
Organized by Youth and Society in collaboration with the Youth Decide Campaign, the summit brought together young leaders, civil society, policymakers, and global partners to chart a bold vision for youth participation in governance and human rights advocacy.
Distinguished Voices, Shared Purpose
The summit was graced by a distinguished lineup of guests and speakers, including:
-
Rabecca Adda-Dontoh, UN Resident Coordinator
-
Rizine Mzikamanda, SC, Chief Justice
-
Rt. Hon. Cathrine Gotani Hara, SC, Speaker of the National Assembly
-
Hon. Simplex Chithyola Banda, delivering the keynote speech
Their messages underscored a common truth — youth are not just leaders of tomorrow, but leaders of today.
Empowering Youth for Democratic Action
Central to the summit’s discussions was the call for active youth participation in the upcoming elections and beyond. The message was clear: young people must recognize and embrace the power of their vote, and their role in shaping accountable, inclusive governance.
The 12-pillar National Youth Manifesto serves as a guiding framework for policy engagement, addressing issues such as education, employment, health, governance, and climate action — with youth voices at the center of decision-making.
Our Takeaway
For Lizu Community Network, this summit reaffirmed our commitment to empowering young people with the knowledge, digital skills, and civic awareness they need to influence governance processes at every level. As Zambia and the region move closer to critical democratic milestones, we stand ready to mobilize and support youth in translating vision into action.
