Digital Rights Training In Mchini Compound, Chipata

We held an engaging and reflective session with teenagers and young people from Mchini community in Chipata, Dilika Ward, focused on digital rights, digital hygiene, and online safety. The session was delivered in collaboration with Teen Health Zambia and created a safe space for young people to talk openly about their experiences online, the risks they face, and the responsibilities they carry in digital spaces.

As young people spend more time online for learning, social interaction, and self-expression, understanding digital child rights becomes essential. During the session, we explored what these rights mean in practice, including the right to privacy, safety, access to information, and freedom from online abuse. Participants also learned practical digital hygiene and safety tips, such as protecting personal information, recognizing harmful online behavior, responding to cyberbullying, and knowing where to seek help.

This activity forms part of our engagement during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Through these conversations, we continue to remind young people that they are not just users of digital platforms, but active actors with a role to play in preventing and challenging Online Gender-Based Violence. By building awareness early, we aim to strengthen their confidence to speak out, support peers, and promote respectful and safe online communities.

At Lizu Community Network, we believe that empowering young people with the right knowledge and tools is key to fostering safer digital spaces and advancing inclusive, rights-based participation online. We are grateful to Teen Health Zambia for the collaboration and to the young people of Mchini community for their openness, curiosity, and commitment to learning.
