From Participant to Expert Trainer and Change Agent
Fidelis Phiri
Fidelis Phiri, a dedicated change-maker from Sinda District, attended the Digital Advocacy training, Digital Marketing, and Monetization in Chipata, which ignited a spark within him. Empowered with new skills and knowledge, Fidelis returned to his community and launched a movement to combat early marriages and teenage pregnancies. Through his initiative, he not only raises awareness about these critical issues but also empowers women and girls with digital skills such as app development, social media monetization, and graphic designing using their phones as entrepreneurship tools.
Fidelis’s movement has gained momentum, and he was recently invited to showcase his work to the Mayor of Chipata City, His Worship, George Mwanza during the 2024 Youth Week. With pride, Fidelis demonstrated the impact of his movement, highlighting the transformation in the lives of women and girls who have gained economic independence and confidence through digital skills. The Mayor was impressed by Fidelis’s dedication and innovation, acknowledging the significant contribution to the community’s development.

In the Luangeni Constituency, Chikando ward in the rural parts of Zambia, a group of citizens has taken a bold step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in their community. After participating in a social accountability and public resource management training facilitated by Lizu Community Network, supported by Alliance for Community Action, these citizens have demonstrated unwavering commitment to holding their leaders accountable.
With newfound knowledge and skills, they have been actively demanding transparency in the allocation and utilization of public resources. Through public gatherings, community meetings, and town halls, they have been disseminating information and engaging with fellow community members to ensure that everyone is informed and empowered.
Their determination has led to increased scrutiny of local authorities, pushing for better management of public funds and improved delivery of essential services. By persistently seeking answers and advocating for their rights, these citizens are shaping a more accountable and responsive governance system.
